Ukrainian Voices
Fulbright Iceland would like to thank everyone that partnered with us on this important project, including Steven Meyers, Director of the Film Department at Iceland University of the Arts, and his team, Ukrainian-American filmmaker and Fulbright Specialist Andriy Semenyuk, the film students who put their talent into this project, the Ukrainians who allowed us to glimpse into their lives and the Ukrainian Consulate in Iceland. We also thank the State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, which provided funding for the project. This venture involved our Fulbright Specialist working with students who were taking a course in documentary filmmaking. They created short documentaries on Ukrainians living in Iceland. The project culminated in a screening of the six short films November 16 at the cinema Bíó Paradís, where 150 Ukrainians, Icelanders and Americans came together to view the final products. You would not have known that the students were taking their first steps in documentary work. They and their Ukrainian collaborators did a fantastic job. Each film showed a unique perspective and offered moving insights. We are proud to have played a part in the telling of these stories. While this type of project will sadly not affect the war, it gives a voice to the victims of this heinous aggression. Fulbright Iceland stand resolutely with the people of Ukraine. Slava Ukraini!
