Haystack Mountain Summer Grants for Artists and Craftspeople

Fulbright Iceland is now administrating the American-Scandinavian Foundation grants for Haystack Mountain School of Crafts. These grants provide $3,500 for Icelandic artists or craftspeople to attend two-week summer courses in metal, clay, textiles, glass, graphics, or wood in picturesque coastal Maine. The grant covers tuition and housing and meals, but participants must pay their own travel costs. Applicants must be Icelandic citizens and have experience in their field. Applicants should preferably have a BA/BFA or MFA degree and must be over the age of 18. Those who have not previously been to the United States are given priority, but all interested artists and craftspeople are encouraged to apply. Applications will be accepted through December 29, 2024. Click here to apply.

Seeking an Icelandic Scholar in Residence with Expertise in Renewable Energy

Next year, Fulbright Iceland is offering a grant for a Fulbright Scholar in Residence (S-I-R) in renewable energy in the United States. The selected grantee will be teaching courses on renewable energy and climate change in the Department of Engineering at Harding University in Arkansans. Applications are open to academics and professionals from all STEM disciplines, as long as they have academic knowledge of renewable energy and teaching experience at the university level. Candidates with a PhD are preferred, but applicants with a master’s degree in a relevant field can apply. The application deadline is January 23, 2025. Interested applicants are encouraged to contact [email protected] for further information. Click here to apply.

U.S. College Summer Academies

Summer Academy Grants support participation by Icelandic upper-secondary students in short summer programs at colleges and universities in the United States. These programs allow participants to explore university options, delve into their fields of interest, and experience studying abroad. Preparations are underway and we hope to announce the application cycle in early 2025. Stay tuned to social media and our website for updates.

Ben Franklin Transatlantic Fellowship

For the second year, Fulbright Iceland is partnering with the U.S. Embassy and ECA to offer the Ben Franklin Transatlantic Fellowship, a summer program for students 16 to 18 years old. The program involves an intensive short-term exchange, created to foster relationships among young Europeans and Americans to build strong linkages and an awareness of shared values.
