The Commission hosted an orientation session for the incoming U.S. Fulbright grantees in the beginning of September. To get them off on the right foot, the Commission provided a full afternoon with a variety of presentations from Fulbright staff, as well as a former U.S. grantee and a member of the Fulbright Board of Directors. The session concluded with a crash course in Icelandic. The afternoon ended with an informal dinner at a local restaurant.

Final Presentations

We bid farewell for now to two wonderful scholars who were in Iceland for the fall semester. As is customary, they gave their final presentations before departure in December. Dr. Jonathan Wilcox, Professor of English at the University of Iowa, who was hosted at the University of Iceland presented his project titled “Viking-Age North-Sea Culture: Exploring Medieval Connections between Iceland and England.” Dr. Lauren Fields, Fulbright-Ministry for Foreign Affairs Arctic scholar and Foreign Affairs Specialist at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), was hosted by the University of Akureyri and presented her project “Fisheries Management: Iceland and the Central Arctic Ocean Agreement.”
