Did you know that Icelandic universities and institutions can get U.S. Fulbright scholars and specialist to Iceland for short visits to lecture or participate in other academic activities, such as conferences, seminars or meetings?
This winter close to 250 U.S. scholars are on grants in European countries participating in the Fulbright Inter-Country Travel Grant program. You can find a scholar in almost any field in social, health natural sciences, humanities or the arts. Through this program, universities and institutions can have a U.S. Fulbright scholar currently in Europe visit for a few days, with Fulbright covering the visitor’s travel costs. The Icelandic institution is expected to cover other resulting expenses (accommodation, meals and other in-country transport). You can read more on the Fulbright ICTG program and get the most up-to-date scholar list on our ICTG webpage.
The Fulbright Specialist program has become very popular in recent years, and with good reason. This program offers the opportunity to receive a U.S. specialist for a 2-6 week visit to Iceland. This is a great opportunity for Icelandic institutions to gain expertise from U.S. scholars, artists and professionals for a short project, whether it is to lecture, participate in seminars/conferences, collaborate on curriculum and faculty development, institutional planning, provide training, advise policy makers or take part in any other relevant activities. These grants have been a great success and have laid the foundation for further cooperation and collaboration between institutions in Iceland and the United States. Elsewhere in this newsletter you can read more about recent successful Specialist projects.
