Fulbright Iceland Valsson

Four U.S. scholars completing their Fulbright grants at the end of this semester presented their projects and discussed their experiences in Iceland in two sessions at the Commission in December. Two of our Arctic scholars, Kathy Dhanda from Sacred Heart University and Hongjie Xie from University of Texas-San Antonio, both of whom were hosted by the University of Iceland, started off on December 6. While working in vastly different fields, both of their projects addressed the effects of climate change: Dr. Dhanda on Iceland’s economy and supply chains and Dr. Xie on snow cover changes in Iceland. On December 9, two all-fields scholars presented at the Commission: Julio Rivera from Carthage College, who taught at University of Iceland School of Business in the fall, and Jean Davidson from California Polytechnic State University, who spent her time at the University of Akureyri Faculty of Natural Resource Sciences teaching courses on bioinformatics. Both sessions were well attended, both in person and virtually, with lively discussions about the scholars’ experiences in Iceland afterwards.
