Fulbright Specialists Making an Impact
Fulbright Specialist Alison Footman with colleagues at the Directorate of Health
The Fulbright Specialist Program may be a short-term grant (2-6 weeks), but it really packs a punch. Our five Fulbright Specialists of the fall were great examples of this.
Alison Footman, Senior Program Manager at AVAC, spent a month working with the Directorate of Health in Iceland on a prevention plan for sexually transmitted diseases infections. The University of Iceland hosted two Specialists in September, Patricia Prinz from New York City College of Technology who worked on Artificial Intelligence and Academic Writing and Douglas Larkin from Montclair State University who worked on Strengthening STEM Teachers and Empowering Students.
Nancy McGehee, Professor of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Virginia Tech, came to Hólar University in October to lecture on Rural Tourism, as well as giving workshops on the subject that the University of Akureyri and the University of Iceland. In November, Mary Hendrickson, Professor in Rural Sociology at the University of Missouri, worked on Sustainable Agriculture at the Agricultural University of Iceland.
All of these projects were considered highly valuable to both the hosts and the specialists, with continued cooperation in some form or another in the works. To learn more on how your institution can host a Fulbright Specialist visit our website.
