Grantee Events

Fulbright Commission Iceland, U.S. Grantees and the Icelandic President Halla Tómasdóttir at Bessastaðir
It’s always a pleasure to host grantee enrichments events for our U.S. grantees, and the spring semester was no exception. The events we held for our U.S. grantees were diverse and ranged from attending their first ever handball game to celebrating the Icelandic national Bun Day (is. Bolludagur) at the ED’s house.
Our grantees were invited in February to Bessastaðir, the official residence of the President of Iceland. There the grantees met with President Halla Tómasdóttir, where they had the opportunity to discuss their projects and their time in Iceland over a cup of coffee. After a lively meeting, the grantees got a tour of Bessastaðir and its archeological treasures. Bessastaðir is an important historical site, running all the way back to the age of settlement.
The April event took place at Noztra, where grantees unleashed their creative spirit through pottery painting, each producing a nice souvenir to take back home when they return to the U.S.
