The Fulbright Iceland breakout session at the Arctic Circle Assembly has become an annual event in the Fulbright Iceland calendar. This October, three Fulbright fellows and four Fulbright scholars gave short presentations on their research and work in Iceland, which included topics such as volcanic impact on respiratory health, afforestation following glacial retreat and how to improve avalanche forecasts. The audience had an opportunity to engage with each grantee and ask questions on their research after the presentations. As usual, there was a good turnout for the session and lively discussions at the roundtables. Mike Sfraga, U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for Arctic Affairs, took time out of his busy schedule to drop by the session, which was greatly appreciated. He said a few words, where he spoke on the important role of Fulbright in Arctic research.

Fulbright Iceland Arctic grantees who spoke at the session were Fulbright-NSF Arctic fellows Liza Wilson, Arisha Khan and Konstantine Vlasis, Fulbright-MFA Arctic Scholar Kanwalroop Dhanda, Fulbright-NSF Arctic Research Scholars Aaron Kennedy and Carey Clouse, and Fulbright-NSF Arctic Distinguished Research Scholar Hongjie Xie.
